Our entire range of wallets, journals and bracelets all started from nothing more than simple ideas. However, it takes a lot more than ideas to bring them to life. Our process is one that has been refined over the past few years and includes several different stages that take our ideas and turn them into reality.
Ideation Stage
Each of our products started from simple ideas that then began to take on many forms. Our products are influenced through many reference points of design, including popular media such as big screen movies, indie video-games and RPG based board games. We like to picture our products as being both unique and broad to enable it’s lore-friendliness into any individual’s story.
This stage of our process involves rudimentary shapes that are then formed and fitted to create a unique product that fits into your lifestyle seamlessly. We go through many revisions to each design, making sure it maintains it’s main utility functions over design for design’s sake. Once we’re satisfied with our design, it is finalized and processed to our laser cutters.
Preparation
With the finalized idea created, we then format our digitized blueprint to speak with our laser cutters. After preparing our lasers, we can begin to prepare our premium rawhide vegetable tanned leather for cutting. Each design is meticulously cut within 0.01 mm of accuracy and is later hand assembled and finished.
Dying & Coat Finishing
After the design has been accurately cut, the next step is to process the cut panels into the desired color(s). Using a proprietary water based blend we are able to form a wide range of colors. After the dye has been evenly applied throughout the panels, it is left to dry.
After the panels are completely dried, a final finishing coat is applied to seal the leather and give it a semi-gloss finish. This finishing coat, along with the natural properties of vegetable tanned leather, provide your product with a high durability and high water resistance.
Assembly
Assembling all the parts is the most labor intensive part of our process. The assembly process requires advanced skill and precise movements that can only be achieved by hand. This includes properly striking and adhering each panel in it’s proper place. Once every panel has been seated, the assembly is finished with hand-stitching, a traditional practice that binds each panel together with durable and waxed polyester cord . We could use machine stitching but we’ve found that hand stitching provides a much stronger and more personalized end product with a high ability to harness unique detail.
Finishing Touches
After the product has been hand-assembled, the last remaining finishes can commence. This includes chamfering, sanding, dying and sealing the edges as well as providing a finishing buff to the entire product. Once the product is sealed and polished it can head off to be packaged up for it’s new owner.
Packaging
Once the finished product has been polished, it’s time to package it up and ship it off to it’s new owner. The product is inspected and given a final polish before it is wrapped in vintage paper, tied and wax sealed. It is then safely secured inside a kraft mailer with shredded paper padding and finally handed off to our courier.
